HOUSING: Small hike in outlay for flagship housing scheme; nothing for urban housing.

In spite of all the talk of helping the aam aadmi, the outlay under the Indira Aawas Yojana (IAY) for the rural poor in 2009-10 is more or less the same as in 2008-09 (revised estimate). While the central plan outlay in 2008-09 was Rs 7,919 crore, the amount budgeted for 2009-10 is Rs 7,920 crore.

BHUBANESWAR: The Central agencies executing rural electrification programme under the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutkaran Yojana (RGGVY) in the State were Tuesday directed to complete the infrastructure projects strictly as per schedule.

The draft Congress manifesto for the next Lok Sabha election, which will be sent to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for approval, is likely to focus on the successful running of the UPA alliance in contrast to its NDA predecessor.

Chandigarh: Cooperation minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh today said primary agriculture societies in rural areas will be converted into multi-purpose agri-societies, where farm-use facilities will be provided at cheaper rates. He said, the plan is to convert 20 percent of such societies into multi-purpose societies every year.
