The initial success of the flagship National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) has prompted the rural development ministry to seek a four-fold increase in Budget allocation for the project.

The National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has agreed in principle to allow detailed project reports (DPR) of bridges of less than 60 metre span on the basis of preliminary projects drawings so that more projects could be funded.

National Bank for Rural and Agriculture Development (Nabard), Jharkhand unit, today laid out an annual credit plan of Rs 9299.29 crore for various priority sectors of the state.

The state government has sanctioned Rs 63 crore to Panchayat and Rural Development Department to undertake employment-oriented works in 38 districts, which have been affected by drought in the wake of scanty rainfall during 2009-10. Out of these funds, Rs 40 crore has been allocated by the office of Relief Commissioner to Panchayat and Rural Development Department as first instalment.
