Moser Baer’s Rs. 100- crore 5-MW solar grid interactive photovoltaic (SPV) plant in Sivaganga has technology suited specifically for Indian climate

Located in the hinterland is a project that proved to be a trump card for those advocating solar power as a solution to the power crisis in the State. Spread across 65 acres in Rettai Pillai Ayyanarkoil, a tiny hamlet near Muthupatti in Sivaganga district, the 5-MW solar grid interactive photovoltaic (SPV) plant has exceeded the targets set in the planning stages, according to government and company officials.

Part of initiative to tackle power crisis in the State

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is charting out an action plan for extensively exploiting the solar energy potential to tackle the power crisis gripping the State. Official sources told The Hindu here that a high-level expert panel appointed by the board is holding weekly meetings to scrutinise the successful models set up in different parts of the country for preparing a detailed project report by mid-November. As a proven technology, it has been envisaged to adopt the solar technology at present and then move on to other sources like wind and tidal power in due course.

About 60 coal-based power plants were planned in Chhattisgarh after 2005 as opportunistic business plugged into easy money and bad governance.

However, State Government has to relax policies on third party sales

India had the potential to exploit solar power to a large extent that would enable industries to reduce its dependency on an unreliable grid supply and diesel-powered generators, which are fast becoming expensive as the Government begins to withdraw subsidies, according to M. Srinivas Ramprasad, Chief Executive Officer of Persept Solar, a Bangalore-based solar firm with German technology.

SHILLONG: The State Government has decided to enter into a joint venture to develop a thermal power project from coal sourced out from the Mandakini-B coal block located in Odisha.

The decision to this effect was taken at a State Cabinet meeting held here on Thursday. Power Minister AT Mondal said that the State would stand to get around 1,320 MW of power divided into two units (2 x 660 MW) from the proposed project.

Rattled by the din over alleged irregularities in allocation of coal blocks, the government is bringing back ‘inspector raj’ in the power sector.

The Rs 3,550 cr project would help the state, which is currently facing 3000 Mw power shortfall

The trial run of the 600 Mw Mettur Thermal Power Station (MTPS) in Mettur, Tamil Nadu today achieved full capacity, according to a senior official from the BGR Energy System, the private firm which is building the station for Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation officials (TANGEDCO). BGR's Spokesperson confirmed and said “our plant constructed for Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB's) generation and distribution arm TANGEDCO at Mettur achieved full load successfully during the trial on.”

GUWAHATI, Oct 9 – After quite a long time, the State today emerged power surplus.

Project at Poojappura penal complex set up at a cost of Rs.7.9 crore

Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will inaugurate a solar-energy project and a new restroom for visitors at the Central Jail, Poojappura, here on Wednesday. A press release issued on Tuesday said the solar energy scheme would make the department the first one in the country to depend entirely on this clean and renewable source of energy.

Solar energy project launched at Central Prison, Poojappura
