Raasi Green Energy Private Ltd today signed a MoU with the Tamil Nadu Government to set up a solar farm in the state of Tamil Nadu with an investment of around Rs 920 crore. The new plant will come in the southern district of Ramanathapuram district. The company exchanged a MoU with Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) in front of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at Chennai today.

Rs.15 for a unit for those exceeding 300-unit monthly limit

The Kerala State Regulatory Commission has ordered to levy Rs.15 per unit from domestic consumers who exceed the 300-unit monthly limit set for them. The current power tariff for the consumers in the 300 to 500 unit slab is Rs.7.50 per unit. On crossing the 300 unit consumption limit, the consumers now will have to pay a penalty of Rs.15 per unit. The new rate will come into force from December 15 to May 31, 2013.

Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) heaved a sigh of relief with the recent movement of coal from the mines of the Panem Coal Mines Limited in Pakur district of Jharkhand.

The 22-day-long agitation in one of Jharkhand’s largest mines run by Panem Coal Mines Ltd was called off on December 9 after the company headed by its chairman and managing director (CMD) Ujwal Upadhyay agreed to implement the provisions of the agreement it signed with the Rajmahal Pahari Bachao Anndolan Samiti in 2006.

Continuing its crackdown on non-serious players, the Ministry of Coal deallocated two more coal blocks- Baitarani West and Naini- allotted in Odisha in view of the unsatisfactory progress in development of the coal mines and end-use plants.

The deallocation has been effected by the ministry on the basis of recommendations made by the inter-ministerial group (IMG) of the Centre on coal block allocation. The government has also forfeited 50 per cent bank guarantee provided by the allocatees at the time of allotment.

The government plans to enact a law soon to make states accountable for power distribution, Union Power Secretary P Uma Shankar said on Wednesday.

CESC Limited will take over power supply services from the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) by early next year. JSEB consumers feel this new arrangement will remove their long-standing grievances and discontents against the state’s power board.
