The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board has ordered closure of 12 manufacturing units of different pharma companies, including Aurobindo Pharma, around the city for allegedly violating pollution norms. According to a Board's release, the notices have been issued to the facilities to stop all industrial activities with effect from July 23 to complete the on-going batches.

Responding to pressure from residents of villages surrounding Mavallipura landfill, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has issued orders to close the dump yard.

Issuing orders on Wednesday, the KSPCB said that owing to non-compliance with the conditions stipulated, the BBMP has been asked to stop sending municipal solid waste (MSW) to Mavallipura landfill.

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the State government to address the court on the issue of initiating action to prevent pollution in and around Sabarimala. There appears to be considerable opposition from the local population to the Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) proposed to be set up at Rawatbhata near Kota in Rajasthan. The complex, with an envisaged capacity of 500 tonnes fuel a year, is to cater to the four PHWR (Pressurized heavy water reactors) plants of 700 MWe capacity each coming up by 2016 in Rajasthan and Gujarat. In capacity, the Rawatbhata fuel complex is to be next to only Hyderabad NFC in the country which produces 850 tonnes fuel a year.
