The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the chairman of the Haryana Pollution Control Board to remain present, with his team of technical experts, on January 9.

The directions follow a public interest litigation filed by Sonepat resident Anil Kumar against the State of Haryana and other respondents.

Guidelines for location of industries on river banks have been framed and are referred to Task Force on Regional Plan, the Government said today.

Haryana Minister of State for Environment and Forests Kiran Choudhry on Wednesday directed the officers of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) to prepare a list of all plastic bag manufacturers and take steps to completely ban the use of plastic bags in the State.

With the onset of winter now, the pollution level is likely to increase further. This is because the dust could hang over the city sky, making it wrapped under a thick smog. This has already reduced the visibility, particularly in night and resulted in a great hardship to vehicular traffic.

Traffic movement came to a halt today when residents of Kandra and Gamharia in Seraikela-Kharsawan district blocked the road for over four hours, protesting against the rising pollution level because of sponge-iron units.

The protesters squatted on the road blocking it with their cycles and tractors and refused to budge till their demands were met.
