TALCHER: The strike by the drivers and helpers of private transport companies at Talcher Coalfields from last evening paralysed work in all the seven open cast mines.

TALCHER: Talcher coalfield, ranked as the biggest coalfield in India, has recorded a negative growth of 20 per cent (pc) in the first two months of the current fiscal much to the disappointment of coal authorities. As against the coal production of 9.7 MT during this time last year, 7.67 MT was produced this year.

TALCHER: The 3000 MW Talcher Super Thermal power plant at Kaniha will import over 13 lakh tonnes of coal in the current financial year to offset the shortage. This is the second largest power plant in India and a unit of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. The plant at present has a coal stock of about two lakh tonne, enough for just three days.
