DANISH FIRM IN INDIA: A S Velfrost, a US $200-million Danish freezer and deep freezer manufacturer, is considering India as a possible manufacturing base, its first outside Denmark. According to executives, a deal is being negotiated with Blue Star India for a joint venture. However, the plans have not taken off yet because neither companies have found market conditions encouraging. "We would like to have a production unit with a minimum capacity of one lakh units per annum,' said Ole Miller Jensen, sales director of the Danish firm.

BHUBANESWAR: While the State is facing power crisis due to poor hydro situation in the reservoirs, breakdown of three thermal power units of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has further deepened the crisis.

Two units of 500 MW each of the Talcher Super Thermal Power Station (TSTPS) at Kaniha went out of the State grid due to technical reasons.

TALCHER: Production and dispatch of coal at Talcher Coalfield has been badly hit due to ceasework by drivers and operators working under private contractors demanding hike in their wages.

Coal supply to NTPC-Kaniha and Nalco power plant has also been hit due to the strike. As many as 5000 contractual workers working at various transporting agencies resorted to cease work early this morning.

ANGUL: Coal supply to Nalco captive power plant was hit on Tuesday following a fire mishap at the rapid loading system in linked Bharatapur coal mine at Talcher coalfield. The fire destroyed the conveyer of the rapid loading system of Nalco at the mine.

ANGUL: After Nalco decided to import coal to bridge the shortfall, the depeeneing coal crisis led to shutdown of a 120 MW unit at its power plant here. Aluminium production at the smelter has also been curtailed due to the precipitating crisis.
