The -State forest department has launched a unique policy aiming at income generation of the unemployed people as well as the youth of the state by using various species of local bamboo available in the region.

There is an urgent need for an amendment to the Forest and the Wildlife Act of India for the safety of the endangered forests and wildlife of Assam. Wild animals belonging to various species including their habitats have been decreasing for which problems like global warming, various unseen diseases etc are confronting mankind as serious threats.

Guwahati: While 500 tourists, are stranded in Tawang, close to the India-China border in western Arunachal Pradesh, the entire district is also facing an acute shortage of petroleum products as landslides have cut off the only road link between Tawang and Tezpur (in Assam) for the past four days.

TEZPUR: The ten-day massive vaccination programme to prevent the deadly Japanese encephalitis disease concluded in Sonitpur district on May 14 last. The vaccination programme was launched by the district Health and Family Welfare department in collaboration with the district administration from May 4 last.

The floods have claimed 20 lives so far even as the situation in central Assam, Majuli river island and Kaziranga National Park remained grim and further deteriorated on Thursday.

Road communication through the National Highway (NH) 31, which was overtopped by the floodwaters of the Puthimari at Kendukona yesterday, is expected to be restored by tomorrow morning. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today visited the flood-affected areas of Kamrup district. Meanwhile, body of one Chandan Sarma was recovered by the Army.
