MUMBAI: Acting on the directives of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), which were issued during the approval of the Rs 434-crore Byculla zoo makeover plan last year, the BMC has completed a survey to ascertain the number of trees there.

There was a time when the migratory birds used to flock to the Lucknow Zoological Garden in huge numbers. But now their numbers have decreased over the years owing to the increased traffic on the Park Road and the growing urbanisation of the city. There are very few birds visible on the Ashok and semal trees on the Park Road.

BHUBANESWAR: Indian zoos are all set to join the international community. The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has decided to add the large and medium zoos of India to a global network of Zoo Information System (ZIMS).

The move promises to take zoo management to another level with initiation of Animal Records Keeping System (ARKS) and International Species Information System (ISIS).

Mumbai: The state is all set to get its first leopard safari. Theforest department has decided to set up such safaris at three places in the state -- near Belwandi in Ahmednagar district, at Manikdoh in Pune district and at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai.

In order to chalk out a uniform policy with regard to the management of the zoos, all the zoos in the country have been asked to prepare an action plan by March 31, said Meera Saxena, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Forests, Environment and Ecology and Chairperson, Zoo Authority of Karnataka.

TIRUCHI: A comprehensive master plan of the zoological park to be established inside the Reserve Forest (RF) at M.R. Palayam near here has reached the final stage of preparation and would be submitted to the State government within this month.

Chandigarh: With the tricity shivering under heavy cold conditions, special arrangements have been made for the various animals at the Chhatbir zoo to keep them warm. Apart from special huts built for the purpose, dietary changes have been introduced and a large number of jute mats and heat converters placed in the enclosures.
