Neglected disease research and development: how much are we really spending?

The participation of many organisations and countries in the development of new neglected disease products is a remarkable and welcome change from past decades of inertia and neglect. However,
a broadening of funding efforts so that all who are able to contribute do so, and all diseases receive the attention they deserve, would lead to a dramatically positive impact on the health of developing country patients afflicted with these diseases. This is more important than ever in tough economic
times if we are to ensure that those most in need do not end up paying the highest price.
