Report on treatment of land slide and erosion control project under TDET - South Sikkim
Sikkim is facing great challenge to protect the natural resource from land degradation and erosion. The whole state of Sikkim is hilly and cris-crossed by number of streams. Soil erosion is one of the major problems. The hills of Sikkim mainly consist of gneissose and half-schistose rocks, making their soil brown clay, and generally poor and shallow. The proposed project intends to arrest the soil erosion & landslides in few selected areas in all the four districts of Sikkim and develop demonstration models for technology extension. In the current project under TDET, study of vegetation and soils of four severe erosion of South Sikkim has been carried out for the guidelines to implements the technical inputs in order to combat the problem of soil erosion.
