A comprehensive strategy for the prevention and control of NCDs must integrate public health actions to minimize risk factor exposure at the level of the population and reduce risk at the level of individuals at high risk.

Moderate alcohol consumption is known to be protective against coronary heart disease (CHD). However, the INTERHEART study, a case–control study of acute myocardial infarction (MI) patients, revealed that alcohol consumption in South Asians was not protective against CHD. We therefore planned to study cardiovascular risk factor and CHD prevalence among male alcohol users as compared to age matched lifetime abstainers.

Along with the existing problem of underweight, overweight in children is increasing in the developing world. However, there is little information on its magnitude and pattern in the Indian context. The author's aimed to study the pattern and correlates of overweight in Indian children and adolescents.
