Flooded rivulets inundate fields, damage crops

Heavy rain wreaked havoc in Una district today with swollen rivulets inundating fields and other properties of villagers.

The first phase of the plan to develop the area near Pong Dam structure as a tourist destination, using the funds sourced from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has drawn criticism from oustees living in the vicinity of the Pong Dam lake.

A survey by The Tribune in various industrial areas in Una and Kangra districts has revealed that many polluting units have come up on riverbeds.

Renuka lake, named after the Goddess Renuka ji, the mother of Lord Parashuram, is situated near Dadahu in Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh. Since years, it has been receiving silt and debris from 22 nallas, which are all around the catchment of the lake, which is causing ecological deterioration, habitat degradation and eutrification, etc.
