The number of farmers in Chhattisgarh has come down by more than 12 per cent while the number of farm labourers in the state has soared during the period. The final census report was released Thursday evening that underlined that there was a big reduction in the number of farmers in Chhattisgarh that was once known as "rice bowl" of the country. The number had come down by nearly 450,000 during a decade time from 2001 to 2011.

Total financial aid for agriculture and rural development activities in state touched Rs 4,388 cr in FY13

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) financial assistance in Chhattisgarh has recorded new high during the financial year 2012-13. The total financial assistance for agriculture and rural development activities in Chhattisgarh touched Rs 4388 crore in the recently concluded financial year. "This showed an increase of 256 per cent over the last fiscal's Rs 1231 crore," NABARD Chief General Manager Sunil Kumar Bansal said.

Reeling under severe power crises, Tamil Nadu government is mooting a plan to set up a power plant in Chhattisgarh.

The proposal was in the preliminary stage as final decision will be taken after consultation with the Chhattisgarh government that would provide other infrastructure required for the project. Reeling under serious raw material crises, steel makers in Chhattisgarh want Odisha model in the state for their survival.

The Odisha government in its recent order had directed that atleast 50 per cent of the iron ore lumps and 50 per cent of the iron ore fines won from the mines in any month and not put to captive use by the lessees should be sold to the stand alone mineral based industries located in the state. The instruction shall be effective from December 2012 till further order.

Chief Minister Raman Singh on Friday performed laid the foundation stone for the project to be implemented in Khandwa village of the Naya Raipur. The project that would come up with an estimated cost of Rs 230 crore is stipulated to be completed within two years.

The Rs 250-crore road project of the Delhi-based DS Construction (DSC) Limited in Chhattisgarh is heading for a bumpy ride with company’s another effort to set up toll plaza going into vain.

The Chhattisgarh High Court has granted stay on the proposed toll plaza in Sunder Nagar locality on the 44 km Tatibandh (through ring road) and Arang four-lane project that DSC had constructed. The company had bagged the contract from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in 2006 on Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.
