JAIPUR: A forest guard was killed by a few villagers in Bundi's Dabi forest area after Wednesday midnight while he was trying to stop a tractor carrying illegally mined stones.

Jaipur: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday reiterated that the Central government plans to increase the installed capacity of solar power by an additional 10,000 MW by 2017. Of this, 40% is likely to come from Rajasthan.

While speaking at the inauguration of the Fourth Clean Energy Ministerial in New Delhi, the PM said “A solar capacity of about 1,500 MW has already been installed in the country, and an additional 10,000 MW will be implemented by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan, ending in 2017”.

JAIPUR: In a bid to curb illegal mining in state, the Rajasthan high court has asked the state government to finalize the allotment of mining leases of bajri (riverbed sand) in state within a period of six months as per new rules and to adopt procedure for revenue collection under new rules only.

The order was passed while disposing a PIL filed by an NGO, Nature Club of Rajasthan. The order was passed by the high court in the light of a judgment rendered by Supreme Court in 2012.

Jaipur:In a step to discourage the sale and consumption of tobacco products, the medical health and family welfare department has directed district collectors to launch a campaign to remove all the advertisement boards which violate the rules pertaining to point of sale of tobacco products.

The Union ministry of health underlined four rules for advertisement boards for tobacco products. The first is that the size of the advertisement board should not exceed 60 centimetres by 40 centimetres.

Jaipur: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Norway on Tuesday signed an agreement for the second phase of the Norway India Partnership Agreement Initiative (NIPI). According to the agreement signed on Tuesday, the project will be implemented in NIPI focus districts in Odisha and Rajasthan.

A key focus of the second phase of the initiative is to improve quality and delivery of National Rural Health Mission units in the two states. The second phase of NIPI will also establish state newborn care resource centrs. The partnership will use a mix of advisory services, technical assistance and project management services from UNDP.
