LUCKNOW: The Planning Commission after having detailed discussion with a team of senior officers of UP, led by chief secretary Atul Kumar Gupta in New Delhi on Tuesday, approved Rs 42,000 crore annual plan for the state for the year 2010-2011.

LUCKNOW: Ambedkar Sthal, the dream project of Mayawati government appeared as Helen's necklace for the state capital, said Justice AK Roopanwal of the full bench of the high court while asking the opponents of the said project if the dwellers residing in the vicinity of the sthal face any environmental hazard.

LUCKNOW: On Sunday, Census 2011, India's 15th enumeration drive since 1872, was kickstarted in Uttar Pradesh. The exercise began with chief minister Mayawati filling up her details in the census schedule 2011 at her residence in Lucknow.

The CM also made an appeal to residents of UP, to cooperate with census officials by sharing the details necessary for carrying out this exercise.

LUCKNOW: In a fresh impetus to bettering urban infrastructure in major cities of the state, the government of India has named Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, Kanpur, Meerut, Allahabad and Mathura as mission cities under the urban infrastructure and governance (UIG) scheme of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

LUCKNOW: The delay by the Central and state groundwater boards in releasing the 2008 groundwater assessment report might dislodge the huge efforts made by the state groundwater department and crores of rupees being pumped in by the government to replenish the fast depleting groundwater reservoirs in UP.

LUCKNOW: The State Bank of India (SBI), Lucknow formally adopted the royal inmates of Lucknow zoo. The bank adopted a royal Bengal tiger and a white tiger on Thursday. The cheque for Rs 3,20,000 was handed over to the zoo director Renu Singh by BV Chaubal, CGM, SBI, Lucknow circle. The amount will be for the year-long food requirements of the two tigers.

LUCKNOW: The door-to-door collection of household waste in the state capital may become a reality by next month, but site where it would be safely dumped still remains a distant reality. Even if the site in Hardoi Road, at present identified by the authorities, is taken into consideration, it would not be available before next year.
