The Hon’ble Supreme Court in its order of October 24, 2017 had banned the use of pet coke and furnace oil (FO) in NCR from November 1, 2017 and had asked industries to meet standards stipulated in draft notification issued by MOEF&CC by December 31, 2017.

Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) has drafted a comprehensive action plan for Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) in consultation with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) of the Delhi government.

This is the final report on mandating acceptable fuels and recommending ban on sale and use of furnace oil and pet coke in NCR in compliance with the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court dated March 6, 2017. EPCA has consulted the state governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP and CPCB during finalization of the Comprehensive Action Plan.

The Hon’ble Supreme Court has been concerned about the pollution of trucks entering and leaving Delhi for the past decade. In its order of December 6, 2001, the Hon’bleSupreme Court had banned entry of non-destined commercial transit traffic effective from January 15, 2002.
