Odisha has been adjudged the top ranked State followed by Uttar Pradesh at the 2nd spot and Andhra Pradesh at third amongst the General Category States in ‘State Ranking Index for NFSA’. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has issued the Food Security (Assistance to State Governments) (Amendment) Rules, 2021 to further amend the Food Security (Assistance to State Governments) Rules, 2015.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules to further amend the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018, namely:- (1) These rules may be called the Bureau of Indian Standards (Amendment) Rules, 2020.

The Rules provide for state governments to implement the direct cash transfer scheme for food subsidy beneficiaries. The central government will transfer funds to states/UTs on a monthly basis for this purpose.
