India has set an ambitious target of reaching 175 GW of installed capacity from renewable energy sources including 100 GW from solar and 60 GW from wind by the year 2022. Various policy initiatives have been taken to achieve this target.

MNRE invites comments of stakeholders on “Draft Guidelines for Tariff Based Competitive Bidding Process for Procurement of Power from Grid Connected Solar PV Power Projects”.

Wind energy is the fastest growing renewable energy source in India. With an installed capacity of close to 28 GW, it constitutes about 61% of the country’s installed renewable power capacity. Commercial wind power projects in India are promoted through fiscal and promotional incentives.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has formulated a Scheme for Setting up of 1000 MW ISTS-connected Wind Power Projects (WPP) to provide a framework for inter-state sale of wind power at a price determined through transparent competitive bidding process.

To ensure healthy and orderly growth of wind power sector in the country, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy issued guidelines for development of wind power projects in July 1995 and same were revised from time to time. In addition the Government has taken various initiatives to encourage wind power development in the country.

Ministry of New & Renewable Energy releases the Policy for Repowering of the Wind Power Projects for information of the stakeholders and general public. Objective of the Repowering Policy is to promote optimum utilisation of wind energy resources by creating facilitative framework for repowering.
