The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has directed 19 mines to shut down their operations in the absence of consent under the Air and Water Pollution Control Act.

PANJIM : Though closure notices have been issued to 19 mines on Tuesday, lack of coordination and failure to determine which department should enforce the notices, puts the important ban on operations in limbo.

PANJIM: Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has said that an amount of Rs 10 crores has been earmarked for the development of Quepem taluka and he has directed the concerned authorities to submit to him a comprehensive plan of development for Quepem town.

The notification issued by Union Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF)  dated July 11, 2011 has listed bulls among six species of animals who cannot be used as a performing animals under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
