The matter relates to leak of furnace oil in the premises of the Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (CTPs), operated by the Damodar Valley Corporation, which the applicant says affected the Damodar river, its tributaries and adjoining areas. The report says that the Committee has incorrect information about the date of the incident, which happened on October 13, 2019 and not October 15, 2019.

The issue for consideration was the steps for restitution of the area which was earlier under the RORO asbestos mines, Chaibasa, West Singhbhum district. Lease for such mines was given in favour of Hyderabad Asbestos Cement Product Limited (HACPL). The mines stopped working in the year 1983. However, safety measures for restitution of the mines to mitigate adverse environmental and health impact in the area were not taken.
