JAIPUR: Good news trickles in for the migratory birds at the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, which will soon receive about 300 million cubic feet (mcft) water through the Chambal Dholpur-Bharatpur drinking water project. The water is expected to ensure a good season for both the winged visitors and the bird enthusiasts.

An ambitious scheme for distribution of free medicines at all government hospitals and health care institutions started here on Sunday amid reports of insufficient supply of drugs at several places and shortage of doctors, para-medical staff and pharmacists mainly at the primary health centres in villages. Long queues of patients were witnessed at the special counters opened for them.

An initiative to save the State's community land

Rajasthan has pioneered an initiative to save its community land by preparing a draft policy. The State is the first to bring out a “Common Land Policy” on the lines of the National Policy for Common Property Resource Lands (Common Lands), 2002.

The government has issued a series of orders to facilitate the process and aims to complete the demarcation of such land within the purview of the gram panchayats and under common use such as grazing lands, common ponds and their catchment areas, playgrounds. The state government has also issued orders facilitating the utilisation of MGNREGA funds for improving the productivity of common land and has issued operational guidelines.

Tribal and nomadic communities in Rajasthan were asked here on Thursday to take part actively in the upcoming first-of-its-kind Socio-Economic and Caste Census aimed at identifying the Below Poverty Line families in both urban and rural areas that can benefit from the Union Government's welfare schemes.
