ITANAGAR, May 12: The North East Development Welfare Society (NEDWS) has resolved to focus on ways and means to preserve mithun owing to large-scale slaughter of the animal for political events, marriage ceremonies and commercial purposes. In its recent sitting, the Society decided to approach the appropriate authorities to declare officially mithun as the State Animal.

CHENNAI: The State government will consult legal experts before deciding to approach the Supreme Court for relaxation of norms governing jallikattu (bull fight), Rural Industries and Animal Husbandry Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy told the Assembly on Tuesday.
