A new human H7N9 infection case, who used to buy pigeons, has been reported in East China's Jiangsu Province, provincial health authorities said Friday.
China's first human infection of the bird flu H5N6 virus is an isolated case and the risk for further outbreaks remains low, the top health authority said.
The highly pathogenic H5 virus was detected through genetic testing of chickens at a farm in Kumamoto prefecture in the south, the ministry said on its Website.
The Directorate of Animal Health has urged owners of poultry farms to subject their birds to bird flu tests. The appeal came after bird flu surfaced in two poultry farms in Itahari.
