The tremor on Friday morning in Bangalore has no connection with the earthquakes that hit many parts of the world and geologists believe that it was only a local phenomenon.

A temblor shook the southern parts of Bangalore on Friday morning. No loss of property or life was reported, but it certainly sparked panic.

The State Government on Monday announced the release of Rs 200 crore for the Bangalore Metro Rail project. This amount is part of the Rs 700 crore sanctioned for the project in this years budget.

Incidentally, this is the single largest release by the State Government for the prestigious Metro Rail project.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the board of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had given its green signal for the proposed extension of the Namma Metro project.

The High Court has stayed the auction of a plot of land at K Gollahalli in Kengeri Hobli.

Following a public Interest Litigation by R Suresh and others, residents of Gollahalli village, the Court has stayed the auction of over four acres land, which was scheduled on August 27, 2008. The petitioners said that the land being an agro zone cannot be auctioned for any other purpose.

Chemistry students of MES College in Malleswaram were into a rude shock after conducting an experiment to check the quantity of lead in a Ganesha idol...

They immersed a painted Ganesha idol weighing one kg in fresh water only to find that the quantity of lead had gone up from 3 micro gram per deci litre (100 ml) to 8.6 micro gram deci litre! However, permitted limit of lead quantity in drinking water is only 1 micro gram per deci litre. This sums up the ill-effect of using painted Ganesha idols.

Farmers in and around Bangalore are relying substantially on untreated urban waste water for their produce, which not only increase the consumers health risks but also convert farmers into destitutes.

This is the finding of a survey that analysed the quality and usage of waste water for 53 cities in developing countries. Carried out by International Water Management Institute (IWMI), it was released in Stockholm on Monday.
