KOLKATA, 15 MARCH: Occupants of houses situated on both sides of the Beliaghata canal have urged the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to conduct the anti-larvae drive in the area after many people were found to be suffering from malaria.

The state Irrigation and waterways department had begun dredging operation at the canal.

KOLKATA, 18, Aug: The private bus and taxi owners will inform the state government about their decision regarding the transport strike shortly.

The state transport minister Mr Ranjit Kundu today met leaders of taxi and bus owners to discuss the matter.

The state government on Monday doubled the subsidy on diesel for buses, minibuses and taxis to Rs 2 per litre and lifted the cap on the total subsidy offered to each transport operator.

For a taxi, up to 20 litres of diesel was being subsidised per day. The limit for buses and minibuses was 50 litres.
