Ahmedabad/ Vadodara: In a damning report, the central pollution control board (CPCB) proved that industries in and around Vadodara are dumping toxic chemicals into Mahi river and the Gulf of Cambay. The effluent being dumped are 15 times more polluted than the accepted norms.

New Delhi: Delhi government so far has been pinning all its hopes for clean air during the Commonwealth Games in October on people switching over to mass transport systems.

The Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) has given clearance to a private waste management company to dispose 346 tonnes of toxic waste of the now-defunct Union Carbide Corporation (UCC)'s pesticide plant, officials said.

The Government on Wednesday ruled out a blanket ban on plastic bags and said waste management at the local level should be improved to ensure that the waste did not become an environmental hazard. Replying to a question on plastic waste, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said in the Lok Sabha that ''a blanket ban on plastic bags is not advisable.''

NEW DELHI: Systemlife, the Italian company that installed a novel outdoor air-filtration machine as a pilot project at Connaught Place in the heart of the Capital, has claimed success in reducing air pollution in the area.

The unit was installed outside the bustling Rajiv Chowk metro rail station in CP on March 6 in association with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

The Government will come out with a set of rules on May 15 to manage electronic waste (e-waste), Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday. He said the new rules will have public-private partnership (PPP) and focus on recycling of useful material and destroying toxic waste.

With illegal recycling of used electronic goods like mobile phone and computer posing environmental and health hazard, the Government will in less than a month come out with e-waste management and disposal rules.

NEW DELHI: Half the bio-medical waste generated in the country's hospitals is just dumped with municipal garbage, without any special treatment, according to a recent study evaluating the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). In fact, almost 15,000 hospitals have been served show cause notices as defaulters for not following waste management rules.
