Jamshedpur, Feb. 17: The Centre is keen on developing eco-tourism atop the picturesque Dalma hills so that local tribals can earn a livelihood from the exercise.

The National Afforestation and Eco-development Board (NAEB), under the Union ministry of environment and forests, conducted a two-day workshop to discuss various ideas that could promote eco-tourism in Dalma.

Jamshedpur: Over a dozen villages in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district have been put on high alert as herds of tuskers have begun their return journey from Saranda forest to Dalma hills.

The forest department yesterday released a flock of rare parrots, a langur and a barking deer in the Dalma wildlife sanctuary.

The red-vented parrots, which are protected under Schedule IV of the Wildlife Protection Act, were confiscated from a Sakchi pet shop where 28 birds were found crammed into a tiny cage, up for sale.

The late monsoon is upsetting the migration schedule of the elephants of the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary.

Each year, in the month of September, elephants leave the reserve area and head to Purulia, West and East Midnapore districts. They return to sanctuary before the start of the summer season, around mid-February.
