The Assam Power Projects Development Company Pvt Ltd (APPDCL), a joint venture company on Tuesday signed two small hydro power implementation agreements with two companies. The projects are to be implemented under the public private partnership (PPP) mode and commissioned by April 2012.

The three major projects contributing major share to the State Power Scenario are Indira Sagar, Omkareshwar and Interstate Sardar Sarovar Project. Since commissioning, these three hydro power projects in Narmada Valley have yielded 23561.5 mu of power till February, 2010 resulted amounts Rs 4855 cr.

With increase in power demand from the agriculture sector and lower water level in the Bhakra and Pong Dam reservoirs, there has been a sudden power crisis in Punjab. According to Punjab State Electricity Board officials, unscheduled power cuts are unavoidable because of the regulatory steps taken by the board for ensuring the security of the northern grid.

BHUBANESWAR: While the State is reeling under power crisis, the Government has not taken any proactive measures during the last 15 years to add hydro generation capacity despite huge potential.

Shimla: The hydropower developers will not be able to shift the sites of dam and power house as per the new project allotment policy, under which boundaries will be marked on the ground. They will be required to provide more free power to the government as royalty in case the capacity of the project is enhanced beyond 20 per cent after the preparation of detailed project report.

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is on the look-out for a Designated Operational Entity (DOE) for validation of the three small hydro-electric pilot projects in the State being taken up for implementation under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

A whopping amount of Rs 6449.46 lakhs have been pumped into this mere 3 Mega Watt for the last 16 years, yet the service of this project is yet to see the light.
