Fifty-two people are confirmed to be suffering from dengue fever in the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira and another 404 probably have the mosquito-borne disease, health officials said on Thursday

New Delhi: Delhi reported 37 new dengue cases on Friday taking the total number of such cases this season to 796.

There was no let up in dengue cases in the capital with 33 patients testing positive on Tuesday, taking the total to 685.

Two children have so far succumbed to dengue ever since the disease began spreading in the capital early this month. Thirty cases were reported from three municipal corporations while two were from the VVIP areas of the capital. One case originated from outside the capital.

35 cases reported on Sunday; Shahdara (South) tops the list

Thirty-five fresh cases of dengue were reported in the Capital on Sunday, taking the total number of such cases this season to 652. Two people have succumbed to dengue ever since the disease began spreading in the Capital early this month. Except Sadar Paharganj and City zones, all other 10 zones reported fresh cases on Sunday with Shahdara (South) area topping the list with seven cases.

Dengue appears to be fast spreading in the national capital with 31 fresh cases being reported today, taking the total number of cases this season to 611.

Health workers, students to join in vector control measures

A massive public awareness and source-reduction campaign will be launched in the capital by involving over 5,000 people, including health workers, members of voluntary agencies and schoolchildren as part of an action plan to bring down dengue fever cases in the district. This was decided at a meeting called by Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar and attended by senior officials of the Health department and representatives of the city Corporation, including the Mayor, here on Thursday. Social Welfare Minister M.K. Muneer was present.

Chandigarh: The UT health authorities, on Thursday, held a meeting to review the preventive steps taken to control dengue cases in Chandigarh.

Thirty-three fresh cases of dengue were reported in the Capital on Thursday, taking the total number of such cases to 551.

Most of the 12 zones that come under three Municipal Corporations reported dengue cases on Monday with the maximum being reported from Shahdara (North) and Shahdara (South zones). While 32 fresh cases on Thursday were reported from three Municipal Corporations areas, one was reported from New Delhi Municipal Corporation.

There have been a total of 5,376 cases of dengue in Tamil Nadu, the highest in the country this year.

Provisional figures listed on the website of the National Vector-Borne Diseases Control Programme under the Union health ministry revealed that the State recorded 39 deaths from dengue this year — the highest, again. The state with the second highest number of cases is Kerala, but it is way behind at 2,995 cases (11 deaths). Karnataka records 2,403 cases but it has the second highest number of deaths at 21.
