Number Higher Hospitals, path labs rely on cheaper and faster ‘rapid test’, but these patients don’t figure on the official list

Five confirmed dengue positive cases were reported from Chandigarh City. Till date, 298 confirmed dengue cases have been reported during this season.

JAIPUR: Dengue cases in Jaipur have shot up dramatically in less than a month with the report of 176 such cases in the city.

However, the medical health and family welfare department downplayed the situation claiming that in comparison to the corresponding period last year, the number of dengue cases this year are quite less. It was only in October the fever started victimizing people. The figure of dengue cases from January 1 to October 22 was just 28. But from October 7 to October 22, as many as 51 new cases of dengue fever were reported. Moreover, from October 22 to November 4, the new dengue cases found in the city were 125.

GUWAHATI, Nov 2 – As many as 183 confirmed cases of dengue have been detected by the Health Department in the State till date, of which three of them had lost their lives.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Centre for a report on implementation of government’s long-term action plan to control the outbreak of diseases such as dengue in the city.

A major dengue epidemic is sweeping the country but the health ministry continues to be in denial.

All the leading private hospitals in Delhi, including Fortis, Max Healthcare, Apollo Hospital and Batra Hospital, are flooded with dengue patients and on any one day these hospitals have been handling over 150 dengue patients. Beds have been placed in waiting spaces of the larger hospitals to treat additional patients. But officials insist the number of dengue cases is still inching towards the 1,000 mark and therefore cannot be called an “epidemic”.

The Centre was asked on Wednesday by the Delhi High Court to submit to it a report on implementation of the government’s long-term action plan to control the outbreak of dangerous diseases like dengue in the city.

A division bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw sought the report within three weeks from the Union Ministry of Health and posted the matter for December 12.

Indian Public Health Association (IPHA) expressed its apprehensions over dengue-related deaths in Madurai district.

New Delhi: Despite a fall in temperature, dengue cases continue to be reported in the city.
