The number of dengue cases reported in the City far exceeds that reported by the Health Department on the basis of the reports from various government hospitals. However, experts suggest that dengue cases should be approached with clinical diagnosis and the treatment should be independent of laboratory reports.

With 450 cases of dengue being reported across the city, Delhi Health Minister A.K. Walia on Monday directed all the government and private hospitals having platelet separator machines and blood banks to ensure that their equipment was in perfect working condition and able to produce platelets and allied produce round-the-clock.

Around 400 cases of dengue were reported in the national capital this season, almost triggering the threat of a dengue outbreak in the city. Around 30 cases were reported on Saturday alone.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has so far reported the highest number of cases, around 150 cases, with the north and East Delhi Municipal Corporations trailing not far behind, reporting approximately 140 and 70 cases respectively. While the rough estimated number of dengue cases being reported in Delhi is around 30 per day, doctors in most major Delhi hospitals say they are getting at least 20 cases every day.

New Delhi: Delhi reported 35 fresh cases of dengue on Wednesday, the highest for a single day this season. The total number of cases has now gone up to 298.

Symptoms of Dengue
Dengue fever, also known as break bone fever, is an infectious tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, and skin rash. In a small proportion of cases, the disease develops into the life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever, resulting in bleeding or into dengue shock syndrome, in which blood pressure falls dangerously. Dengue virus is primarily transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes.

Total number of cases so far this season goes up to 233

The Capital reported 31 fresh cases of dengue on Monday taking the total number of cases to 233 this season. According to figures released by Delhi Municipal Corporations, all the 12 zones, except the Sadar Paharganj zone, in the jurisdiction of South, North and East Delhi Municipalities recorded dengue cases.
