NEW DELHI: Spread over two acres, the 80,000 sq. ft. campus of TERI University at Vasant Kunj here, which will be inaugurated by President Pratibha Patil on Thursday, has emerged as a template for energy efficiency and conservation.

The University, which is the first of its kind dedicated to the study of environment, energy and natural sciences, will consume only 60 per cent of the energy that a building of its dimensions uses.

JAIPUR: The Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam has allotted the project work of replacing over 30 lakh incandescent lamps of domestic consumers with the compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) to three private companies. The move is expected to reduce electricity consumption by 30.4 crore units every year.

Jaipur Discom Chairman and Managing Director R.G. Gupta said here on Wednesday that the three companies were selected through tenders for entering into an agreement under the Bachat Lamp Yojana of the Union Government

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the State government to come out with a policy on power conservation immediately.

The policy should give broad guidelines on the steps that needed to be taken by households for conserving electricity and minimising wastage.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala will join the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) based in Vienna, Austria.

Electricity Minister A.K. Balan and Director of the Energy Management Centre Dharesan Unnithan held discussions with International Director of the REEEP Marianne Osterkorn and Deputy Director Binu Parthan in Vienna on Saturday and came to an understanding on the State joining the partnership.
