Question raised in Lok Sabha on Forest Village in Gujarat, 04/01/2019. As per information received from respective State Governments and Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the number of the forest villages and villages inside the core/critical tiger habitat in the country, State-wise including Gujarat, is given at Annexure-I. Developments work like road, drinking water, school, electrification, sanitation, etc are done in forest settlement villages by the respective line departments and forest department of a State Government.

The villages in forest areas may include forest villages, old habitations, unsurveyed villages and other villages in the forests, whether recorded, notified or not into revenue villages. Question raised in Lok Sabha on Villages in Forest Areas, 14/03/2017. As reported by States, in respect of tiger reserves, villages located in core/critical tiger habitat was 751. However, number of villages located in protected forest areas other than Tiger Reserves are not compiled in the Ministry. Details of villages relocated outside from Tiger Reserve/Wildlife sanctuaries are given in the Annexure.

The Ministry has issued guidelines, in compliance of Section 3 (1) (h) of “The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, on conversion of forest villages, old habitations, unsurveyed villages in forests, whether recorded, notified or not into revenue villages vide letter No.23011/33/2010-FRA dated 08.11.2013. Status of conversion of Forest Villages to Revenue Villages based on the information received from the State Governments is at Annexure-1.
