The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to leave it to the Supreme Court to decide on the fate of Netherlands-based company Brakel Corporation, which was allotted the mega 960 MW Jangi-Thopan power project but the allotment was later set aside by the High Court.

The state power utility will have to procure over 7 million units of solar power from next year under the regulations framed by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) to promote green energy.

The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, which met here on Monday, approved a revised bid document for privatisation of all hydel projects above five megawatt capacity. It also gave a green signal to the power department to invite bids for 18 new hydel projects.

Hamirpur: The work on Dhola-Sidh, the first hydel project of Hamirpur district, being built on the Beas near Nadaun by the Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN), would begin by March next year.

The clearance for term of reference (TOR) for the project, which has now been upgraded from the proposed 40 to 66 MW, was granted recently the by Union Ministry of Environment.
