Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) on Tuesday imposed penalty on 50 hotels in the city for violating pollution control norms.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of M/S Casa Toscana & Others Vs State of West Bengal & Others dated 05/05/2016 regarding air and noise pollution caused by the restaurant namely M/s Casa Toscana, located at  14 Sarat Chatterjee Avenue, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Ward. No. 87, P.S. Tollygunge, Kolkata ­700 029. NGT observed that there are mainly two issues that fall calls for Court's consideration.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Vikrant Kumar Tongad Vs. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. dated 28/04/2016 regarding installation of rain water harvesting systems in hotels of Delhi. Local Commissioner has filed the report. On inspection it was found that the IBIS Hotel has installed two Rain Water Harvesting Systems and both are similar in design and the said design is the approved design as per the CGWA. The report further shows that the Rain Water Harvesting Systems are in good and clean condition, are satisfactory and are as per the approved design.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Hotels and Guest Houses Association Mahipalpur Vs. Delhi Pollution Control Committee & Ors dated 28/04/2016 regarding hotels and guesthouses in Mahipalpur near the IGI Airport operating without permission from civic agencies and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).

The present Application filed by the Hotels and Guest Houses Association Mahipalpur questions the three pre-conditions stipulated for grant of consent to operate by the DPCC namely:

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shailesh Singh V/s. Hotel Holiday Regency, Moradabad & Ors. dated 26/04/2016 regarding groundwater extraction by hotels in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board shall submit a report based on the analysis of the STP discharge and also the green area available in the premises of the respective hotels where the STP water could be used and also report for what purpose the sewage water can be used.

The principal bench passed the direction, while hearing a plea alleging unauthorised extraction of groundwater by three five-star hotels in Delhi.

The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has ordered DMRC to shut the food court at Huda City Centre Metro station within 15 days if steps are not taken to check pollution from discharged

The National Green Tribunal in the 38-page verdict on March 21, 2016  constituted a committee and asked it to submit a report regarding construction activities by Darrameks Hotels & Developers Private Limited on banks and the flood plains of river Ganga at village Singtali , District Tehri Garhwal, in Uttarakhand. The green tribunal also stated that the hotel authorities shall be liable to pay environmental compensation of Rs. 20 Lakh for violating the conditions set in the Consent to Establish issued by the Uttaranchal Environment Protection & Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) and for disturbing the immediate/direct catchment of the river Ganga by changing the drainage pattern through the use of JCBs for levelling the area.
