Kolkata: The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Eastern Zone Bench, has sought a report from the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) on the status of two sweet water aquifers on the Puri beach.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of M/s Hotel Vivek Regent Vs. Uttarakhand Environment Protection & Pollution Control Board & Others dated 14/07/2016 regarding pollution caused by M/s Hotel Vivek Regent. Joint inspection report submitted before the Tribunal shows that there is only one septic tank and the capacity of the tank is not sufficient enough to handle the sewage generated by the hotel. NGT rules that the Hotel cannot be permitted to operate until expansion of the septic tanks.

Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation & Others dated 06/06/2016 regarding water scarcity in Tehsil Kasauli, Solan District, Himachal Pradesh. NGT directs the State of Himachal Pradesh to file all annexures which are annexed to the report including plan for Rain Water Harvesting System that they have placed on record, within two weeks.

NGT noted that685 hotels out of which only 3 hotels have been sealed and to 9 hotels notices of closure has been issued as back as 28/04/2016. Till today none of them has been sealed. NGTdirects the Uttrakhand Pollution Control Board to take action against all the erring Hotels forthwith.
