Judgement of the National Green Tribunal (Western Zone Bench, Pune) in the matter of Shirish Barve & Others Vs Union of India & Others dated 04/04/2014 regarding proposed Jalgaon bypass road of the National Highway No.6 which has been proposed by Respondent No.2 i.e. National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

The inferior ambient air quality was observed near highway passing through Jalgaon urban center. Among the pollutants critical level of particulates are observed at the roadside during May 2003 to April 2004. The shopkeepers working at the highway sides are at high risk of exposure to the air pollution caused by heavy highway traffic.

The ambient air quality monitoring was carried during the May 2003 to April 2004 along the (NH-6) passing through Jalgaon city. The average concentration of SOx 64 μg/m3, NOx 58 μg/m3, particulates (>10 μ) 515 μg/m3 and respirable dust particulates 224 μg/m3 was reported at Prabhat during the study period (May 2003-April 2004).
