CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), which has been in search of additional power to tide over shortage, has joined hands with the Assam and Meghalaya Mineral Development Corporations and Orissa Mining Corporation in developing a coal mine in Orissa as part of its long-term measures to solve the problem.

HALDIA, March 3: RPG flagship CESC Ltd is setting up a 2,000 MW greenfield thermal power plant in Haldia. The plant will come up in Baneswar Chawk, near Jhikurkhali, East Midnapore district.

Development projects that involve displacement are currently a cause of growing concern everywhere. The worrisome aspect is that it is the poor who are hurt most in the process, becoming poorer than before.

The Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGCL) achieved a record generation of 622.71 lakh units of electricity in single day on February 11 and surpassed its own record.

While stating this Sanjeev Kaushal, MD of HPGCL said that this was a land mark achievement as the state power utility had first time crossed the 600-unit milestone.

KOLKATA, 6 APRIL: Coal India Limited today said that it was facing some problems in raw coal offtake following non-availability of rakes by the Railways. As a result, there has been a meagre 3.6 per cent growth in raw coal offtake during the financial year 2009-10.

BHUBANESWAR: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) today assured to augment power supply to the State provided Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) meets the coal requirement of its power plants.

ANGUL: Power generation at the 3000-MW NTPC power plant at Kaniha has been hit due to coal crisis even as Mahanadi Coalfields Limited claimed to have supplied 99 per cent of coal demand of the plant in the current month.

The power plant, second biggest in India, provides power to 17 states, including four southern states.

ANGUL: After Nalco decided to import coal to bridge the shortfall, the depeeneing coal crisis led to shutdown of a 120 MW unit at its power plant here. Aluminium production at the smelter has also been curtailed due to the precipitating crisis.
