Argues that state vigilance is well equipped to conduct enquiry

The Odisha government has rejected the Shah Commission's suggestion for a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the mining scam, arguing that the state vigilance is well equipped to conduct the enquiry.

In exercise of the powers conferred by the section 23C of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 (Central Act 67 of 1957) and all other powers enabling it in this behalf, the Government of Goa hereby amends Goa (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Storage and Transportation of Minerals) Rules, 2013.

Temporary permits for sand mining in the Periyar and Muvattupuzha rivers are against norms, say activists

A group of environmentalists in the district has served a legal notice on District Collector P.I. Sheik Pareeth, warning him against contempt of court and terming illegal the district administration’s decision on Monday to issue temporary permits for sand mining in the Periyar and Muvattupuzha rivers.

14 sand-laden trucks seized, one accused manages to escape

At least 13 persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in illegal mining from the Sutlej basin in the district during the past 24 hours. The police have seized 14 trucks laden with sand from their possession. One of the accused has absconded.
