Mizoram today stepped up vigil along the border after some persons infected with swine flu were detected in neighbouring Manipur, officials said.
Check posts in Mizoram-Manipur border village and other areas were on high alert and ban on import of pigs had been clamped, State Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Director Dr C Sangnghina said.
AIZAWL, Aug 10: Many families in Mizoram were saying no to pork in their Sunday morning meals since 1,000 pigs have died of swine flu so far.
Official sources here today said there had been no report of swine flu in human beings so far, adding the dead pigs were confined to the districts of Lawngtlai and Lunglei bordering Myanmar and Kolasib district bordering Asom.
AIZAWL, July 22: As many as 32 gayals, 77 cattle and 742 pigs died of swine flu as well as foot and mouth diseases (FMD) during the past few weeks in Mizoram. This was disclosed in a meeting held by the animal husbandry and veterinary department recently, which was attended by veterinary officers and staff.
AIZAWL, July 17: The foot and mouth disease has claimed the lives of at least 30 mithuns in Hmawngkawn village of Serchhip district during the past fortnight.
Aizawl: As many as 501 pigs in Mizoram have fallen prey to swine fever and the monetary losses have been estimated at Rs 25 lakh, veterinary officials said on Tuesday. However, the officials assured that there was no reason to panic as swine fever cannot be contracted by human beings, unlike swine flu.
Aizawl: Veterinary officials have identified the disease that killed about 100 pigs in Kolasib district of Mizoram over the last few days as 'Swine Fever', and not the dreaded Swine Flu of the H1N1 virus. ''Swine fever was first detected in Mizoram in 1980. A number of pigs have fallen prey to this disease. It should not be mistaken with the dreaded H1N1 virus.
