The irrigation potential of 1.8 lakh hectare created by Narmada Valley projects during last five years has capacity to change the agriculture economy of the state if maximum of the created potential could be utilized. Keeping this in view the NVDA has zeroing in to take 'Canal water to the fields,' informed the Vice Chairman of NVDA while giving details of the strategy in this regard. He said that efforts are multidirectional. NVDA is executing a work plan to maintain, strengthen and technically uplift the Canal network under various projects.

The study area around Choral river basin in the Narmada Valley region, forms a part of Indore and Khargone districts of Madhya Pradesh. The geological, geomorphologic, lineament, hydrogeomorphic and groundwater potential zone maps of the study area have been prepared using IRS IC LISS III FCC imagery on 1:50,000 scale.

The state government today issued approval to go ahead for 4 new major irrigation projects in Narmada Valley. On completing these projects would create an additional irrigation potential of 1.38 lakh hectare. The quick approval for these proposed project came in the light of the Chief Minister top priority for ensuring utilization of allocated 18.25 M.A.F Narmada water to state by Narmada water dispute Tribunal Award.

A committee of concerning officials has been formed for the Parikrama path of Narmada Valley and facilities for the pilgrims. This committee would prepare action plan for construction of Parikrama Path. Decisions were taken for conservation of rivers at this meeting chaired by Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan. It may be mentioned that Narmada is the only river in the world whose Parikrama is made by the people. So Narmada river is a cultural heritage. Problems of pilgrims would be removed if it is made pollution free.
