Moves Follows Complaints From People Around Delhi Airport About Noise Pollution From Planes

CARRIERS operating jets that are more than 15 years old will have to look for replacement soon, as the civil aviation ministry has decided to gradually phase out older aircraft to check noise level around airports.

The state environment department today issued a notification asking police to confiscate loudspeakers fitted on vehicles that are found guilty of noise pollution.

Mumbai By September, Mumbai, along with six other cities, is scheduled to get a noise monitoring network. The Centre will install 10 stations across the city and record decibel levels on a regular and systematic basis. This is part of the latest amendments to the Noise Pollution (regulation and control) Rules, 2000, which the Ministry of Environment and Forest released on January 11.
