Demands initiation of an independent safety review

The Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace (CNDP) has demanded an immediate halt to the commissioning of the Kudankulam nuclear power project (KKNPP) and initiation of an independent safety review.

The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board on Thursday granted its clearance for ‘first approach to criticality’ for the first unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project.

The paper shows that the expected starting tariff for electricity from these reactors, without including transmission and distribution costs, is likely to be around Rs 15 per unit (kWh).
