The Centre came out confident today that with the renewal of environment clearance, South Korean steel giant Posco’s project in Odisha would take off soon.“The government is working to expedite clearances for the $12-billion project of steel major Posco in Odisha that was awarded environment clearance last week,” Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said in Delhi on Wednesday.

As many as 12 mining lessees have been issued notices for alleged violation of environmental law and undertaking illegal mining in Jajpur district of Odisha, an official said today.

"The district administration has issued show cause notices to 13 mining lessees including four state owned OMC operators for indulging in illegal mining," said Jajpur district Collector Anil Kumar Samal.

The Supreme Court directive to the Centre to place before it the Justice M B Shah Commission’s report on illegal mining in Odisha has come as a rude shock to the state government.

Jajpur Collector issued showcause notices to 12 mining lessees including State owned Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), for violating environment laws and indulging in illegal mining.
