The Power ministry came down heavily on 6 major states of the country holding their lethargic attitude towards ensuring optimum power. A released report from the Ministry claimed that these six states have failed to ensure water and land allotments leading to delays and creating acute power crises.

With most parts of the state shrouded in darkness following shutdown of a Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Ltd (TVNL) unit for repairs, Governor K. Sankaranarayanan has written to Union power minister Sushilkumar Shinde asking for additional power from the central pool.

Power distribution company BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with East Delhi Waste Processing Company (EDWPCL) to buy electricity from Delhi's first 'city waste-to-power' initiative. This would enable the company to purchase clean and renewable electricity generated from solid waste in the city.

Andhra Pradesh is reeling under a severe power crisis, with generation at several power stations badly hit due to the recent floods and poor maintenance. This has led to four to nine hours of power cuts in rural areas and at least one-hour power cuts in cities like Hyderabad, besides unscheduled outages.

With having small co-generation based power plants 41 sugar mills in the state are gearing up to enhance power generation by using coal as fuel which might end current demand and supply difference of power by the next year giving much needed reprieve to consumers.
