June 30: With power shortages continuing amid heat and high levels of humidity, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday asked the private power distribution company, BSES, to come up with a 15-day action plan on what they intend to do over the acute power crisis.

This paper highlights the importance of renewable sources of energy and seeks to demonstrate how the provisions of 2003 Act and specifically how the system of open access can be utilized to promote renewable sources of energy.

Open Access, an issue, which has been discussed and deliberated in the circle of the power market in India time and again, has again come into conversation, with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh taking serious initiatives to make amendments into it.

Under fire from party MLAs, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has directed power discom BSES to submit a 15-day action plan by Wednesday to end the power crisis in the Capital.

The electric utility business has historically consisted of centralized, large-scale power plants, supplying electric power to load centers such as cities and industries through a power transmission and distribution network.

MUMBAI: The engineering marvel Bandra-Worli sea link, which opens on June 30, is likely to consume 1,000 KW power a day, enough to meet the electricity requirement to 100 households.

"We have installed a transmitter which has 1,000 KVA capacity. This has been placed keeping the demand in mind," Bajaj Electrical's Head Engineering Project Lalit Mehta said.

The Central Government has decided to allocate 24 MW more power to the State with effect from tomorrow, from its unallocated pool of power, said the official sources. This is going to help the State improve its overall power scenario.

The World Bank has agreed in principle to give a loan of $ 330 million to Haryana for its power system development project, which will go a long way in strengthening the transmission and distribution systems in the state.
