Seven states yet to unbundle their state electricity boards

The government could complete its six-year-old initiative to unbundle state electricity boards (SEBs) into separate entities for power generation, transmission, distribution and trading business by June 30 this year.

The state electricity board today disconnected power connection of two industrial units, Rama Steel at Jharmajri and Affi Pharmaceuticals at Thana, in the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh industrial area after these were found erring on pollution-control norms.

Everybody agrees that tomorrow's electrical grid must incorporate wind and solar power seamlessly. But solving the reliability issue won't be easy.

MOVING in to make states comply with an existing rule to have a certain portion of their power grid reserved for green energy, the government is planning to set up a renewable power exchange that would issue certificates to surplus states which can be sold to deficit states looking to fill their mandatory quota.

MUMBAI: The Tata Power Company Limited, one of the largest integrated private power utilities, on Monday announced the commercial operation of its new 250-MW Unit 8 at its Trombay thermal power station. The commissioning of the unit promises to bridge the increasing demand-and-supply gap of power for the city.

The state has assured industrialists that it would look into their power problems.

Industry department secretary N.N. Sinha has also told traders and businessmen that the department would act as a mediator between them and officials of Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB).
