June 22: The Centre this time is serious about implementing the revised Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme which will considerably reduce transmission power losses that amount to one third of the power generated in the country.

The programme will be implemented in two stages.

For Clean Energy and Access Improvement:

The Asian Development Bank has provided financial assistance amounting to US $ 164 mn (approximately Rs. 19 billion) for the implementation of Clean Energy and Access Improvement Project in Sri Lanka.

Share In Power Generated By Thermal Plants To Be Commissioned After Jan 2011 May Increase To 35-50%

Anil Ambani-led Reliance Power will invest over Rs 12,000 crore for executing 2,520-MW hydro power projects in Arunachal Pradesh, to be commissioned in the next Five Year Plan (2012-17).

"Reliance Power has signed an agreement with the Arunachal Pradesh government for developing 2,520 MW of hydro power projects in the state," a Reliance Power spokesperson said.

With the completion of an ambitious project of segregating domestic and agriculture load, all villages in Haryana will get three-phase power supply for the entire duration during which power is supplied.

The idea behind the move is to ensure that there is no shortage of power for drinking water and other activities dependent on three-phase power supply.

The West Bengal Government has approached the Centre with a proposal to set up a hydroelectric power project in Bhutan under the Indo-Bhutan bilateral framework. The proposal, if approved, will allow West Bengal to use Bhutan as an offshore generation hub.
